There’s a new modulation plugin in town: Vapor Dimension!
I’m always down for a good freebie, and Karanyi Sounds just dropped a gem: their Vapor Dimension modulation plugin is free for a limited time when you sign up for their newsletter.
Normally priced at $39, this little effect box was originally developed as an in-house tool for their Vapor Keys and Lofi Keys instruments before becoming a standalone plugin.
When I fired it up, I immediately got that lush retro vibe. It’s designed to add movement, width, and color to just about anything, synths, pads, vocals, guitars, or even drums. Think of it like a quick lo-fi texture machine that instantly spices up a track. Despite packing 20 DSP algorithms modeled after classic choruses, phasers, and harmonizers, the interface couldn’t be simpler.
You basically get two big knobs: Type and Modulation. Type switches between different effect flavors, from subtle warmth to dramatic motion, while Modulation lets you fine-tune intensity and depth.
I personally love plugins like this, minimal controls but loads of character. There’s also a Smart Random button that shuffles settings for instant inspiration. I hit it a few times and got some wild textures I’d never have dialed in myself.
The plugin comes with 17 factory and artist presets, which are handy, but honestly, you don’t need them. Just twist the two knobs and you’re good to go. I tried it on a dusty Rhodes loop, then on a drum bus, and both times it gave me exactly the kind of retro atmosphere I was hoping for.
On the practical side, Vapor Dimension includes Dry/Wet control, input/output gain, and it’s light on CPU. It runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on Windows 7+ and macOS 10.11+ (including Apple Silicon), so pretty much anyone can grab it.
It’s free for now, and I’d say it’s a no-brainer download if you’re into lo-fi, retro, or cinematic vibes.
