Techivation Releases M-Imager (Mastering Stereo Expander)

Techivation M Imager

Techivation has introduced M-Imager, a brand-new spectral stereo expander designed to deliver natural width with mastering-grade precision.

I tried M-Imager myself, and the first thing that struck me was how transparent it sounded. Many widening tools I’ve used in the past tend to smear transients or create that unpleasant “phasey” hollowness. Here, the custom phase-only, time-varying decorrelator keeps the punch intact while still opening up the stereo field. Even when I pushed it hard, the mix stayed balanced and mono-compatible.

The plugin isn’t just about making things wide — it’s about sculpting space intelligently. I really liked the Side Channel Dynamic EQ, which let me anchor the low end firmly in the middle while giving the higher frequencies more room to breathe. Being able to fine-tune the side energy this way made my mixes feel wider but also more stable.

On a practical level, M-Imager has plenty of workflow features that made it easy to use: mid/side gain controls, a stereo field visualiser, undo/redo, a scalable interface, and even tooltips when I needed quick reminders. I also appreciated being able to solo the mid or side content to check exactly what the processor was doing.

I also liked the presets as they cover quite a bit of scenarios with helpful names. You can download them seperately in the website.

Techivation claims M-Imager is the first truly artefact-free stereo widening plugin — and from what I’ve heard, that’s not just marketing hype. It manages to add dimension without changing the original tonal balance, which makes it a strong candidate for both mastering engineers and producers who want precision without compromise.

M-Imager is available now from Techivation’s website for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats, and is currently on sale for $55 (57% off, regular $129) until September 20, 2025. There are also loyalty discounts for existing customers.
